Today was a beautiful sunny autumn day in Cork and a real joy to go for a
walk!
However, now Halloween is over, it looks like the shops are more than
ready to sell us Christmas paraphernalia ... and play us endless Christmas
music!! - and it's only just November. Does that mean we should be practising
all OUR Christmas songs too?
Here comes Jingle Bell Rock, Have Yourself a Merry Christmas, Let It Snow,
& White Christmas ... are there any other nice a cappella songs for this festive
season please?? I'd love to know some more!!

BBC2 9pm - 10pm For anyone who enjoys watching Gareth Malone work with a new
choir, he is heading to North Devon to form his latest singing group, consisting
of the wives and girlfriends of soldiers serving in Afghanistan. The choirmaster
soon realises that living on an estate at the edge of a military base has left
the women longing to have a voice that reaches far beyond their insular world.
Remember his 'first outing' with 'Boys Don't Sing'? Brilliant!

Anyone watching the All-Island School Choir of the Year Competition? It's the
final tomorrow, as choirs from St Joseph's Mercy College in Navan, Co Meath,
De la Salle College in Waterford, Wesley College in Dublin and Belfast's Victoria
College sing for the title at the Millennium Forum Theatre and Conference Centre
in Derry. Last one tomorrow 6.30pm.

This morning one of our talented members is making music on tv.
Aisling, who is a gifted bari, is also a brilliant violinist.
She will be playing on Sunday 13 Nov RTE1 at 11am!
Good luck Aisling!

Quartet, are singing in Debenhams, Mahon Point. Why not go along and support
them. You could enjoy the music and do a bit of Christmas shopping at the same
time! They will be singing from 7pm on ...
So to Michelle, Una,& MaryD
'have a ball!' Good luck girls - and enjoy!!

Thanks Pam for a great site, really enjoyed going through it and thanks also
for keeping us up to date with current events. Just like to congratulate
Aisling on her wonderful performance on RTE this morning, what a talented girl.
We are so lucky to have her as part of our choir. Also like to take this
opportunity to wish the Bijou Quartet good luck tomorrow night, wish I could
make it but I have a prior engagement tomorrow night but no doubt I will be
hearing more of them.
Cherrio for now!

I thought the De La Salle boys choir were fantastic on the 'All Island Choirs
competition. Even though they did not win, they gave a great performance.
Maybe they will join our IABS convention in Waterford,4-6th October 2013

Tonight's the Night!
Looking forward to a good night out with the girls as we celebrate
Helen's time with Champagne Cork & prepare to say 'au revoir'
as she gets ready for her big adventure in France!
As well as a great meal & lots of chat, there is bound to be some singing!!!
So look out ... 'Here come the Girls!'
... hmm, that reminds me ... we haven't learnt that song yet!

Well, we had a wonderful night out last night - although we are all very sad
that Helen is leaving us, and we will miss her greatly! We had a fab meal at The
Cornstore in Cornmarket St. and the staff couldn't have been nicer
either!
(Tip:Go for the 'earlybird' and enjoy a wonderful 3 course meal at a
very reasonable price). So we had only just got settled but it didn't take a
minute before MaryD was blowing her pitchpipe and we were singing 'Blues'!! We
got great applause from the punters, and someone came to request some songs for
a retirement party - and we were happy to oblige!! So straight after the
starters we were up on our feet and singing two 'dazzling' numbers - our 'Fly Me
to the Moon' medley and 'Ya Gotta Know How to Love 'Em' (complete with
actions!)
We got a brilliant reaction from the restaurant -both staff &
guests - & we were on a high for the rest of the evening ... and the
gorgeous food helped too!
A bit more chatting, a bit more eating, and a bit
more singing - and then a treat from the chef in the kitchen .... he loved our
singing so much there was a free 'strawberries & cream' liquor for all of
Champagne Cork Chorus! The evening was beginning to draw to a close but not
before we had time to sing a couple more numbers including appropriately 'That's
What Friends are For'which was another great hit!
We are very sad Helen is
leaving us and we will miss her very much, but we will always have fond memories
of this wonderful evening ... truly brilliant in so many ways!!

By the way ... never let it be said that members of CC are
'stay-at-homes'!
Helen E is already enjoying her trip in America, & Liz N
will soon be jetting off to see her family in Perth, Australia for a few
weeks.Hope you have a safe journey, lots of sunshine and a wonderful time,
ladies!

Last of Gareth Malone's Military Wives Choir tonight.BBC2, 9pm. Bet the
'grand finale' will be a tear jerker - but worth watching as the music will be
brilliant.

Bit sad last night as it was the last rehearsal where Helen Clarence will be
present. We enjoyed the chocolates, and the drink in the bar, but we will sadly
miss your wonderful spirit and generosity to the group! Every time I wear my
Champagne Cork shirt I will think of you, Helen!Have a safe journey on your next
adventure, and a wonderful new life in France!!
Pam

On Sunday afternoon next, CC will be singing at the new 'state of the art'
hospice centre in Cork. It is a very prestigious event as many people will be
coming to celebrate, and we are delighted to have been invited to sing. We will
be singing our Lion King medley, and also hope to sing some old favourites and
some new Christmas numbers too!
Also, just wanted to wish Helen & her
husband all the best as they journey to France tomorrow - just in time before
the Irish budget and all the new taxes!! Hope all goes to plan. We wish you both
a safe journey and we look forward to hearing all your news soon - but not in
french!

We have just returned from the Sunday Christmas Festival at Curraheen. It was
a wonderful experience to be part of this event and great to see other
performers too. There were so many choirs, and the vistors were so many that
parking became a problem - but the singing was tremendous - especially the
massed singing at the end!! Cork now has a wonderful building for the care of
its elderly, and it was a pleasure to be a part of this special day.
It was
also a treat to see the most incredible Christmas tree, lit with millions of
white lights and a red star atop the tree, as we left the grounds. Well done to
all who made it such a meaningful event and a wonderful afternoon!

I think congratulations are due to Liz N on becoming chairperson of IABS
recently. We are sure she will bring enormous energy and creativity to the job
and look forward to all the IABS news too!

Singing yesterday at the wonderful Grand Parade Christmas Market in Cork.
Think we raised a good bit of money for 'The Simon Community' during our
marathon sing of 80 minutes non-stop!! It was a lovely bright afternoon and the
punters seemed genuinely pleased with our performance!
Then it was off for a
warming hot chocolate, and a walk round the winter wonderland to see the
beautiful Christmas lights!!
Pam

Well, another year is closing and a new one soon beginning - and this gives
us an opportunity to look back on all the great things we did in 2011, and to
cherish all our friends, young and old, near and far.
May you all have peace and contentment in 2012 - we will be thinking of you
at this special time!
